Why can't my im app or skype read my current twitter status?

Why cant things read whats currently set as my current twitter

When you see it like this it makes a lot of sense. But I've had to set 3 messages almost exactly the same 3 times over. I should be able to set it once and that be the end of it - surely?

This is a perfect example of what a user generated pipeline should be allowed to do. Either one of these are possible but only currently using lots of Applescripting or some clever serverside scripting

Input text in Twitter > Use Twitter API to pull current status into a temporary area (buffer/variable) > Use Skype API to update your status message. Or the reverse of this from Skype to Twitter using there API's.

Input text into 3rd party box > Apple script updates Twitter, Skype and any IM program you have running with the same message if there set to Away already

I wouldn't be surprised if Twitter added the ability to do this type of thing, but it would require you to input your username and password for skype or instant messenger user. This is currently how Blip.TV and Flickr.com can provide pipelines out to other providers. But this is not scalable, shareable and certainly not advisable.
